Rush – Snakes & Arrows Live on bluray
A new wave of music listening is upon us with the onslaught of bluray. A medium capable of high definition 1080p standard image but more importantly stunning 24bit resolution PCM sound. Rush released their Snakes & Arrows Live on bluray shortly before Christmas thus nailing it firmly to my wish list at the very top. This is the third concert bluray to hit my system and I have not been disappointed yet. AC/DC and ZZ Top both delivered quality that could not be obtained through the ordinary DVD medium where many releases have resorted to the snotty 192kbps AC3 sound wise. Pardon my french but it hurts my audiophile heart to own so many technically inferior DVD releases that easily could have been so much more.
This Rush release contains pretty much everything you could want in such a release. Huge setlist, brilliant image and sound quality (yes it’s got PCM stereo, yeah!) although a few items is missing. A tour video is missed and also a couple of interviews would have been nice. I love how Rush seems to be in constant motion which really shines through in concert when playing the Snakes & Arrow material of which there is plenty. I miss Animate from counterparts, but look at the list for yourself (ie. wiki). Alex Lifeson have masterminded some pretty funny content on the disc that I will not spoil for you here – it’s got to be experienced. The outtakes from that endeavor is even funnier than the comedy itself. Nuff said, it’s 4 star experience in my book.
